Reading to Write

»Posted by on Mar 15, 2018 in Blog, Heartfelt Treasures | 0 comments

I had always heard that to be a great writer, you need to be a great reader. But, with so many things going on in my life, I could not seem to find time to truly sit down and read.  It was not a lack of desire, it was a lack of understanding of how something so simple could make such a huge impact on my life. “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.” — George R. R. Martin It is true, that when you read, you open yourself up to new worlds, new situations and new thoughts.  This year, I challenged myself to read one book a week for the whole year. That’s fifty-two more books than I’ve read over the past five years.  I wasn’t sure I could do it, but my whole “life goal” for 2018 was to challenge myself to step out of...

Anniversary Time!

»Posted by on Feb 1, 2017 in Blog, Heartfelt Treasures | 0 comments

January 20th marked the three-year anniversary of Connie’s Corner.  If you’d like to read my very first post as I launched this website, here is the link. Just a little walk down memory lane. In that blog, I introduced myself and shared a little bit about my life and my purpose for having embarked on the whole website / blog journey. So much has changed in my life since then. My kids have both found their life loves and thus I now have three grandchildren and a soon to be daughter-in-law. I am no longer working as a museum director. That change came about a few months after I posted that first-ever blog.  While I miss my job, my friends and the challenges of running a thriving historical non-profit organization, I wake up every morning knowing that leaving was...

Do You Have a Dream?

»Posted by on Jan 17, 2017 in Heartfelt Treasures | 0 comments

I Have a Dream. Quite possibly the most famous four-word phrase in the history of the 20th Century. I am sure that across America, students are using this phrase as a class writing assignment this week when they study Martin Luther King.  His speech was and is, a significant and powerful part of American history and his words live on today. But, for us personally, what does it mean when we say those words. I have a dream. Dreams are a real event in our life of something that may or may not happen. A dream is like clouds. You can’t control its content. It is there, but you can’t hold it in your hand. You can’t capture it for later. You can’t even snap a picture of your dream. It exists for you and you alone inside your mind, heart and soul. So, what is your dream?...

To Blog or Not To Blog! That is a question?

Today is a special day. I am celebrating the two-year anniversary of Connie’s Corner. It pretty-much snuck up on me, and seeing this milestone date pop up on my calendar caused me to pause and take a moment from my busy schedule to reflect a bit. Why did I start my Connie’s Corner blog website? What was I hoping to accomplish? Have I reached any of the writing and speaking goals that I set for myself two years ago when I when I started down this pathway? Have I improved my quality life and affected the life of those around me in some positive manner? These were all questions that have been churning around in my head all week as the anniversary date crept closer and closer. The easiest question to answer, is the why. Why did I decide to start a blog page?...

Tuesday at Ten: Trust

In the words of Peter Pan, “All you need is Faith, Trust and a little Pixie Dust.” I would have to agree that statement. With these three most powerful words manifested in our life, we can conquer anything. Faith…for me personally, I can’t imagine my life without my faith. It’s what gets me up in the morning. It’s what sustains me through the good times, and the bad. It reminds me that I’m not alone in this crazy world, that there is someone who cares for me and loves me no matter what. Webster says that faith is complete trust and confidence in someone or something. It’s being willing to shout to the heavens, “I don’t know what’s happening or what will become of this situation, but I choose faith over fear. I choose!” I’ve had those kind of moments in my life...

Tuesday @ Ten: Write

»Posted by on Oct 13, 2015 in Heartfelt Treasures | 0 comments

Writing is scary. Writing is exhilarating. Being a writer can be such a conundrum. While on one side you have all this fantastic creative work that is just jumping and bumping around in your head and screaming to get out….and then on the other side there is the fear of judgment and criticism once you put your words out there for the world to see and read. I love this quote about writing which summarizes some of my feelings about writing. “Who wants to become a writer? And why? Because it’s the answer to everything. … It’s the streaming reason for living. To note, to pin down, to build up, to create, to be astonished at nothing, to cherish the oddities, to let nothing go down the drain, to make something, to make a great flower out of life, even if it’s a cactus.”...
