Within Four Walls

Authors Note:  I was honored to participate in a blog writing group focused on  sharing about the lives of Women of the Bible.  Here is my contribution based on the story of Priscilla.  cn   Priscilla leaned back, stretched her arms and neck and then resumed the task of sewing on the tent corner laid across her lap. Push the needle through. Pull the thread up. The prickly black goat fur stabbed her fingers over and over again, but she kept going. She would not stop. She would not give up. The tent must be finished tonight. She pushed the needle back into the thick leather again as she glanced up. Across the room, her husband Aquila and their friend Paul were working on the final section for one of the tent walls. She could hear bits and pieces of their...

Tuesday @ Ten: Patience

Patience… Excitedly waiting to open presents with your grandson on Christmas morning. Patience… Joyfully sitting through yet another dance rehearsal or sports practice even though there are other things you could be doing. Patience…Anxiously waiting for your teen to come home after a night out with friends, hoping, and praying that they are OK. Patience… Fearfully waiting for that phone call from the doctor after a scary medical test. Patience… Lovingly holding my hand and my heart until I am done crying and hurting. Patience… Confidently waiting for God’s direction when a major life decision must be made. Patience… Victoriously trusting and putting faith in God’s plan even when you cannot see it. Patience… I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and...

Five Minute Friday: Still

Be still, my soul: begin the song of praise On earth, believing, to Thy Lord on high; Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways, So shall He view thee with a well pleased eye. Be still, my soul: the Sun of life divine Through passing clouds shall but more brightly shine. (words by Katharina A. von Schlegel, 1752) Psalm 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 23:2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my...

Tuesday at Ten: Seek

Recalculating! Recalculating! Enter round-about and take second exit, then when possible, make a U-turn. Our Garmin Nuvi gps (who I like to call Greta), is not happy. We have made a wrong turn on our journey to find the Burz Eltz Castle in Germany. We are seeking, but have obviously make a huge error in our understanding of her instructions. We pull over and regroup, look at our old-fashioned paper map, reassess where we think we are and try again. While this scenario relates to our travel experience and driving in an unfamiliar territory, it applies to our day-to-day life as well. The dictionary describes a “seeker” as one who seeks. Someone searching or looking; primarily for truth. But I would venture to say that there are many in today’s crazy world that...

Tuesday at Ten: Patience

When the kids were little we used to sing a little patience song with them.   Have patience. Have patience. Don’t be in such a hurry. When you get impatient you only start to worry. Remember. Remember. That God is patient too. And think of all the times that others had to wait for you. Even now when I type these words it brings back memories of the occasional use of the song as they were growing up. It was to instill in our kids that life is too short to fuss, worry and hurry. Take a deep breath and realize that waiting a few moments for someone or something isn’t go to kill us. Sometimes though, I need to sing the song to myself. When I have a huge list of things to accomplish during the day and “things” are just slowing me down, I don’t always...
