Tuesdays at Ten: Humility

I am dreaming of humility… and in my dream I am searching. Searching everywhere. Looking high and low. I look into the movies of today. I see self-gratification and violence. I look in the television and contemporary music. More of the same. I look into the windows of our homes. I watch the families that live there. I see abuse, anger, selfishness and people living out their lives for their own personal satisfaction. I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Where can I find humility in today’s world? I should be able to find it in the church, but is it really there? I need to wake up! We all need to wake up! While this scenario was only a dream, it gives us pause to ponder and think. Where can we find humility? Is it gone? Is humility an “outdated” philosophy in America...

My Thoughts on Writer’s Doubt

Girls Day Out

It’s “girls day out” with my friend Tina. We started our morning with a trip to the River Daze Café (Hood River) for a fantastic latte’ and a super tasty breakfast sandwich. Yum…This was made even better by the stimulating company and easy conversation that only happens when you are spending time with a good friend. Then, we headed out for the main event of the day. The Columbia River Gorge Quilt Show. Tina had selected this outing since she knew of my love of fabric and quilting, but we were both treated to such a wonderful and beautiful experience that left me feeling nostalgic and inspired. I know for sure that as we left after two hours, Tina had a developed a deeper appreciation and new found love for the art of quilting. I did not grow up with sewing. It is...

Friendship

Friendship

Friendship is like a game of ball. Which ball game depends on where you are at and how much you have invested in the friendship at that given moment? Typically, I like to strive for a friendship that resembles a nice easy game of tennis. I hit the ball over the net, my friend hits it back. I hit it again and she returns it to me. And then there is all that love business. Yes, I like a good game of tennis friendship. But sometimes our friendships feels a little more like tether ball, just going around and around. Or maybe football where you have the ball and are running towards the goal, but everyone else is determined to tackle you and bring you to the ground. Once in a while I have been in a friend relationship that is all about dodge ball. That is not a good...
