Tuesday at Ten: Trust

In the words of Peter Pan, “All you need is Faith, Trust and a little Pixie Dust.” I would have to agree that statement. With these three most powerful words manifested in our life, we can conquer anything. Faith…for me personally, I can’t imagine my life without my faith. It’s what gets me up in the morning. It’s what sustains me through the good times, and the bad. It reminds me that I’m not alone in this crazy world, that there is someone who cares for me and loves me no matter what. Webster says that faith is complete trust and confidence in someone or something. It’s being willing to shout to the heavens, “I don’t know what’s happening or what will become of this situation, but I choose faith over fear. I choose!” I’ve had those kind of moments in my life...

Cue music: Julie Andrews sitting on the bed with the Van Trapp family kids…thunder claps can be heard outside. To ease their fears of the storm, she begins to sing, “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things” (written by Oscar Hammerstein) Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens Brown paper packages tied up with strings These are a few of my favorite things Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings These are a few of my favorite things. Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes Silver white winters that melt into springs These are a few of my favorite things When...

Tuesday @ Ten: Patience

Patience… Excitedly waiting to open presents with your grandson on Christmas morning. Patience… Joyfully sitting through yet another dance rehearsal or sports practice even though there are other things you could be doing. Patience…Anxiously waiting for your teen to come home after a night out with friends, hoping, and praying that they are OK. Patience… Fearfully waiting for that phone call from the doctor after a scary medical test. Patience… Lovingly holding my hand and my heart until I am done crying and hurting. Patience… Confidently waiting for God’s direction when a major life decision must be made. Patience… Victoriously trusting and putting faith in God’s plan even when you cannot see it. Patience… I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and...

Parables from the Farm: Massey Harris and the Easter Message

As parents we recognize immediately after they place that precious little child in our arms in the hospital, that we would do anything in our power to protect and nurture this priceless gift. I know for myself, that I would give my very last breath for my two kids (and now my grandson) if it meant their life and safety. Even in the animal world, the desire to nurture and protect can be found. This is the parable of Massey Harris. On our farm in Tillamook, Oregon, our kids each had different types of animal projects that they used for business and 4-H. Our son, Aaron had a very thriving and successful meat and show rabbit business. So successful in fact that he bought his first car at age 12 with the profits from his rabbit business…a classic 1966 mustang, which...
