In the words of Peter Pan,
“All you need is Faith, Trust and a little Pixie Dust.”
I would have to agree that statement. With these three most powerful words manifested in our life, we can conquer anything.
Faith…for me personally, I can’t imagine my life without my faith. It’s what gets me up in the morning. It’s what sustains me through the good times, and the bad. It reminds me that I’m not alone in this crazy world, that there is someone who cares for me and loves me no matter what. Webster says that faith is complete trust and confidence in someone or something. It’s being willing to shout to the heavens, “I don’t know what’s happening or what will become of this situation, but I choose faith over fear. I choose!” I’ve had those kind of moments in my life more than I’d like to admit and it’s in those hours of struggle that I have to take a deep breath, and just trust in the Lord.
Which brings us to trust, the next thing on Peter Pan’s list.
Trust…for me, is the physical and emotional expression of having faith in someone or something. It is knowing deep inside, without a doubt, that no matter what, this person you trust will never betray you. Unfortunately, trust is something that is very hard to find and practice in today’s somewhat cynical world. Trust makes you vulnerable. Trust grows slowly over time, and it only takes one moment to lose it. I am confident that there is not one person alive on earth today that has not had at least one experience in their life that resulted in betrayed or lost trust.
Imagine this. Trust is like a beautiful cup of steaming, creamy, rich hot chocolate. Sweet! Enticing! Wonderful. With little white fluffy mini-marshmallows, of course! It only takes one drop of vinegar to destroy the taste forever. Sour meeting sweet and now…it’s disgusting. That is what happens when we lose trust in a relationship. What was once sweet, is now made sour. It leaves a nasty taste in our mouth and we can’t wait to spit it out.
Which brings us back around to faith. Once trust is lost, it is only through faith that it can be restored. It has to be rebuilt, regrown, recycled and renewed one tiny little step at a time. You have to make a conscious effort, and a daily choice to allow that trust to be included in your life again.
Faith and trust go hand in hand in all aspects of our life. But what about pixie dust.
Pixie dust… is the joy and imagination in our life. The ability to see people and events that we are exposed to with the eyes of a child. Open! Pure! Excited for whatever comes next.
I am reminded of this when I think back a few months ago. Our grandson was visiting for the day and Grandpa asked him to help pick up sticks and limbs from the yard that had been blown down in a recent storm. He was so excited! Not necessarily about the work itself, but with the prospect of spending a whole day with Grandpa in the yard. He looked at the situation and found the joy. He used the pixie dust and sprinkled it over an otherwise dreary situation, turning it into a moment of joy and love.
Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust…that’s my mantra for 2016. I’m going to live it a little bit more like Peter Pan.
“Those who trust in, lean on, and confidently hope in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but abides and stands fast forever.” Psalm 125:1
