My Thoughts on Writer’s Doubt

I am participating in a writing contest called, “Overcoming Writer’s Doubt” sponsored by Positive Writer. I do have some doubts about my writing, so I thought, why not enter? I distinctly remember that terrifying, but exciting, day that I sat at my computer after uploading my first blog. I sat with my finger poised over the “publish” button agonizing over whether it was good enough…whether I was good enough? I kept asking myself, what if people don’t like what I wrote. What would happen? As much as I stressed over it, you would think that bridges would fall into the ocean if my stories weren’t “loved”. To read...

Cobalt Blue Beads

Inspired by The Dalles Mountain Ranch Road for the 2014 Plein Air Show. Cobalt Blue Beads She closed her eyes and turned her face to the west wind. It hit her hard, then slid across her cheek like a lover’s caress. Leaning back against the trunk of the oak tree, she sighed. Almost time. This was the old way. She gazed across the golden yellow hills that rolled away towards the snow...

Five Minute Friday: Whisper

Fitting in time for today’s #FiveminuteFriday. After all, it’s only 5 minutes!! #FMF is a flash mob group of wonderful ladies who take the word of the day and write for five minutes. Just for you. “I love you.” “Please don’t leave me.” “Will you marry me?” “You need Jesus.” “Help.” “I have cancer.” “I am going home now.” And then in the words of our LORD, from 1 Kings 19:9b-13 “Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah and said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He answered, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God almighty. You see, the Israelites has forsaken your covenant, torn down our altars, and killed your...

Just Call Me “Gaming Grandma”

Gaming…and I mean playing video or console games…is something I never intended to get involved with. I had watched my kids grow up with gaming and at times become pretty obsessed with it. But a few years ago, my adult kids got us a Wii game console for Christmas. I think it was out of desperation to have something to do over the holidays. We had so much fun. Golf, racing and big game hunting became our past time while we watched the snow piling up outside. It was fun to get up off the couch and just laugh and have a good time. After the holidays, I began to use the Wii as a mechanism to get some much needed exercise. I boxed, played tennis, baseball and walked. One of my favorite “workout” games is Walk It Out – Nintendo Wii! By Konami. (rated E) You put...
